About

What if London, New York, Dubai and every major city shared the same skyline?

If you’re fascinated by cities, skyscrapers and stunning feats of engineering and architecture, take a look at these images from  the BBC’s new documentary, Supersized Earth to find out what a fusion of all the world’s cities would look like…

The first episode in this new series looks back at the biggest man-made structures since the Egyptian pyramids through to the first steel structures like the Eiffel Tower in Paris and the Chrysler Building in New York, culminating in a visit to the very top of the world’s tallest building (at least for the time being), the Burj Khalifa in Dubai.

Part of the stunning  imagery in the programme includes a visualisation of all these landmarks together as we ponder the rapid progress made by humans in relatively little time.

The first episode is all about buildings and mega-cities, and takes viewers on impressive visits to several including London, Shaghai, Hong Kong, Rio de Janeiro, Mexico City and Tokyo.

Part two will focus on travel and transport and part three looks at food, fuel and energy.

It’s on BBC iPlayer in HD right now and for viewers outside the UK try here or here.
